The Melbourne Chamber Orchestra’s Storytellers Program: Wurrtoo!

Community Engagement, First Nations Artists, Round 1 2026

Supported by the Di Jameson Family Foundation, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra’s Storytellers Program: Wurrtoo! is a large-scale education and community engagement initiative centred on Wurrtoo, a newly commissioned First Nations children’s work by composer Aaron Wyatt and author Tylissa Elisara.

The program reaches primary school students in low-socio-economic communities through in-school composition and storytelling workshops, alongside interactive performances presented during NAIDOC Week and beyond. Community activities include side-by-side mentoring, regional performances, aged-care concerts, and creative workshops led by MCO musicians and composer Craig Allister Young.

By combining music, story, and cultural leadership, the program broadens access to the arts while amplifying First Nations voices and strengthening connections between schools, families, and communities across Victoria.
